Urban Epic Boston 

The Urban Epic Boston is the only triathlon in Boston in 2009 and the greenest big-city triathlon on the East Coast!

Fusing a sprint triathlon with a unique festival, the Urban Epic is a celebration of health, fitness, music, art, environmental sustainability, and the active way of life. Urban Epic combines athletic competition and city culture to create a transformative experience like no other. It’s more than just a race – it’s a lifestyle.

Where: The event takes place along the shores of South Boston, starting at the Bayside Expo Center, going to Pleasure Bay, through the UMass Boston campus, and finishing at the L-Street Bathhouse.

The Race: The triathlon is a sprint distance race consisting of a 1/2-mile swim, a 15-mile bike, and 5-mile run. Athletes can compete individually or in relay teams. 

Course details: The point-to-point swim begins near the Bathhouse and goes across the bay to the Expo Center; the bike course is a multiple lap, 15-mile course on closed roads including William Day Blvd., Mt. Vernon Street, and the Umass Boston campus; and the run is a point-to-point course starting at the Expo, running along William Day Blvd, partway around Pleasure Bay, and finishing on the beach at the Bathhouse.

Epic Relay Challenge: Athletes competing as relay teams will directly benefit the Massachusetts Sports Partnership and a number of charitable organizations in the city of Boston. Athletes competing as relay teams will have the option of selecting from one of two relay divisions with differing amounts of charitable contributions: the traditional relay division and the Epic Relay Challenge. All teams entering the Epic Relay Challenge will get to compete for additional prizes and awards.

Après: The Après festival is a summertime party on the beach with music, vendors, food, beer, and more. Spectators join athletes in celebrating the vibrancy of the city and the Epic event.
